Photos and whatever from my holiday in Australia. School starts tomorrow (again) (ugh)
More words below/after the pictures.
Thanks to the angel of Sophia for letting me stay at her house and take pictures of her.
Lately (by which I mean these past few months) I have been much more focused. Being able to concentrate on creativity – or at least actively think about it – is good because I'm not thinking about everything that's peripheral (read: pointless).
With photography I have been questioning a lot about how much of it we see online, how much of mine I post online (not just here but also on Facebook), and how to mediate myself a way that doesn't expose too much of what is personal. I have also been asking people if I can take pictures of them, which is kind of weird because it brings up that whole question of authenticity (I feel like we are the generation obsessed with sincerity and the 'real' just because so much of what we appreciate is fabricated and unauthentic – Instagram filters, music that is made to sound like another era's, whatever). Anyway, no answers exist in this paragraph so I am moving on.
I just started reading Barthes' Camera Lucida, which, while really, really, dense and also not entirely applicable (due to the cultural/temporal gap that exists between Barthes and I), will hopefully give me ways to answer some of these questions?
That is all. Happy holidays (whatever you may celebrate) to you all! (New year as well for those who are primarily on the Gregorian calendar!)
